Math Light 1.0 was our first attempt at making the habit of studying mental math a little more fun.

We adopted a clean, minimalist style for this app; focusing our efforts on real user feedback about the functionality and engagement. We had support for Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division problems; all an essential part of the foundation for mathematics.

Math Light was an Android-only app, and built for in-person, group usage. The results were overwhelmingly positive. We had managed to find a fun way for families to practice math in a way that was engaging and low-stakes. By lowering the “danger of failing”, we could allow people to practice something that can be very anxiety-inducing for them.

And for people who already enjoyed math, the sliding difficulty scale ensured that you were always getting a challenge that was nearing your limits. Trying to solve the problems as fast (and accurate) as possible kept players hungry for more even with such a minimal feature set.

This project is not available for public use, but is a testament to our team’s ability to design and develop engaging products that can be a positive part of people’s daily life. It’s a union between designing for neurodiverse audiences and designing a product that enriches everyone’s experience.
