Math Light 2.0

When I first made Math Light 4 years ago, I was so excited to share it with people, but there was something that was missing from it. It was missing that bit of personality that made you want to come back.

Math Light 2.0 is a ground-up rebuild of the original Math Light, built in Godot.

Progression

I’m so excited to bring a brand new progression system to Math Light. The old system really relied on a simple sliding scale of difficulty, with a very basic punishment / reward system for how many attempts it took to solve any given problem.

Our new progression system relies on pathways; which empowers players to not only decide the kind of math they want to practice, but also gives them an avenue to control the difficulty of their experience.

The pathway system not only allows you to track your skill level, but it also provides an avenue for earning in-game currency!

Personalization

When I think about studying math, I remember cracking open the textbook to a specific section of a chapter, and seeing a wall of problems. Math Light is a much friendlier stage for you to practice math on!

We’re planning on adding a few unlockable backgrounds for you to choose from, but we also wanted to have something more dynamic and fun as part of your gameplay experience. So we’re creating a whole cast of characters that you can unlock, and each character will have a variety of outfits or character skins that let you create the perfect audience to cheer you on as you go on a hot streak, solving those math problems!

Platforms

Math Light will be coming to iOS & Android!

We want the experience to be amazing on mobile, and that includes tablets. You can be sure that we’ll be doing our part to ensure that Math Light on tablets takes full advantage of the screen space to really bring the focus to the whole scene as you play.

We don’t have any more news on this project to share just yet, but our bi-weekly update posts will certainly have more information about this project as it progresses over the next few months! Including a new name for our math game! 🎉
